How long does it take to complete the course?
Our program can be completed in 4 or 5 months if you work on it 8 hours a day 6 days a week. Most students complete the program within 9 months to a year. However, we allow a full 18 months to complete it. You may also apply for an extension if you need additional time. Our focus is always on quality before quantity, so take as long as you need. Best of all EXTENSIONS ARE FREE!
What kind of computer do I need for the program?
For this training, you will need an Internet ready computer that has a USB port.
Minimum computer requirements are as follows: A 486 PC, Windows 95, 64 MB RAM, 33.6 KBPS modem, monitor, video card, sound card and speakers, Real Audio browser plug-in, available USB port.
Recommended system requirements are as follows: Pentium-class PC, Windows 98 or higher, 128 MB RAM, 56 KBPS modem, monitor and video card capable of SVGA (800 x600) resolution and thousands of colors, Real Audio browser plug-in, and USB port, printer, and latest version of Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, or AOL.
As you progress through the course, you'll see we simulate a real employer as you begin transcribing more and more.

Will I have an instructor I can contact?
MT Advantage Career Center is a self-paced, self-instructing program that is different from most others. Just follow our online program, follow along in your workbook, and work through each module as instructed. At the same time, the MT Advantage staff is available nearly 24 hours a day to answer your questions via our student forums, private messages, e-mails and phone calls. Our staff physician is available every weekday to provide answers on the Student Forum and via e-mail so that you will receive the most in-depth, expertly correct explanations needed to fully understand this complex medical language. See, we believe that you must not only be able to transcribe, but you must know exactly what it is that you are transcribing. To do so otherwise is risking your career and the medical care of the patient whose record is being transcribed. Not only is this for safety reasons but ALSO for financial reasons -- your financial well being. Working smarter not harder is not an original motto, but definitely applies in this industry!
For more in-depth questions for either our staff physician or our instructors, we will arrange a time that is convenient for both student and staff so that we can call you to discuss anything you may be having problems with. We feel this flexibility gives the students the advantage of gaining experience and expertise from everything MT Advantage has to offer while at the same time offering the advantage of being able to go as fast or as slow as you need.
What type of transcription practice will I get with MT Advantage?
At MT Advantage you’ll get more transcription practice than with any other program. You will transcribe hundreds of specialized reports and sentence clips, most of which will be compared with the keys through our proprietary software program which also gives automatic feedback so you learn immediately. (No waiting weeks for an instructor to return your graded reports to you.) You will go through 26 modules of different specialties and have typed thousands of sentence clips and mini-reports before you even begin transcribing the SUM reports. Once you begin transcribing the SUM reports, we hand grade each exam so you will have one-on-one feedback which is essential for you to learn correctly. You’ll be transcribing both Beginning and Advanced SUM CDs as well as the Intermediate Surgery module.
Note: Many courses stop right here. At MT Advantage, we also include other intermediate and advanced reports with instructor feedback so you can be a top quality transcriptionist upon graduation with plenty of experience to make the transition smoothly to paid employment. After all, what good is a school if you can't transition smoothly?
